Commonalities across professions..

I keep reading and listening to interviews.. I simply love to hear someone else share their views/opinions about their experiences in life and find it really enriching. Its for the same reason that I like reading biographies of people who document their experiences and share it with others.

Some observations on reading the interviews of cinema actresses made me to reflect on their applicability to my very own life and profession. I was pleasantly surprised to see the strong overlap in our lifestyles and could readily vibe with their thought process. !!!

Say for instance, actresses in India have a very short shelf life unlike their male counterparts. So, there is an inherent insecurity felt by these artists to give out their best and more importantly grab as much ( attention, money, fame and power) before they get sidelined to other younger. more glamourous stars.

I can say this experience is true even in the case of a young Software IT professional who feels, he/she needs to conquer the world in a hurry. A lot of things like personal and social life gets compromised in this process both consciously and unconsciously and I only really pity anyone who has been in this situation.

Going by my guess, these hard-hitters deseparately look forward to some kind-hearted souls who can take sympathy and empathise with their feelings and emotions.

Very few people have the maturity and experience to sense what kind of mental turmoil these young achievers have to undergo for being in the spotlight..

Should we say that the world is mean enough and wicked to have fun at their expense ?

I should conclude by saying that nature and time are the best healers !!!

A new way to react..

How should a father react if his son/daughter fails in a particular subject..

There could be two reasons why this could have happened.

One of them is that it was a bad day for your otherwise brilliant son/daughter and given another chance, he/she will ace the exam. This assumption is true if he/she has a inherent liking for the subject under consideration.

The second reason could be that your son/daugther simply hates this subject and hence this failure is a proof of his interests. That should give a signal to the parents to identify the actual area of interest and make them excel in that field. In this case, the parents should realise the fact that their son/daughter will fail irrespective of when and how many times their ward will take up this exam.!!!

Extending this situation to many other problems in life.. We should first and foremost analyse whether we are solving a "Solvable problem".. There are enough people around us to challenge us with impossible problems like " Straightening a dog's tail ". They present these problems as challenges and provoke us to solve them. Its entirely upto us to fall for their bait..

Intelligence makes you to take a given problem, analyse it and come up with a solution approach.

Wisdom tells you whether a given problem is solvable or not.

So, its important for parents to inculcate and develop both intelligence and wisdom.. This saves and conserves our precious energies and enables to focus our thoughts and attention on the solvable problems.. !!!!

Procrastination is good...

Well, for most people, procastination is the thief of time.. Can we look it in a different light today. More positively. More constructively..

Lets face it.. If you love doing something, you are going to do it right away.. You do not need any incentives, sermons, lectures to tell you the benefits of doing it..

The very fact that you resist doing something is due to your inherent dislike or plain laziness. !!! Say for example, cleaning up your dirty house, deleting unwanted mails in your e-mail box etc.

So, is there a way out of this ?? Well, first make a list of items which are long pending and needs to be done. Whenever you feel upset, things dont go your way or its not your day, just look up your pending list and start working on those ever pending items and score them off. !!! The reason why I advocate this is, people are tempted to vent their negative energy when they are upset on others around or possibly on their personal belongings. They sometimes get into a rage and start breaking things. Not only is there a loss of economic value, this act of theirs is not going to help them in anyway.. Instead, it will be much better for folks to channelize their negative energies into doing their pending tasks..

This can only be done if you have some long standing pending tasks. Hence procrastination is good since it allows you to keep some stuff for your bad days..!!
